Empowerment & Development Projects for Parents
To help families rebuild their lives during and after a child’s cancer treatment, Niru Foundation is launching Empowerment & Development Projects aimed at providing skill-based training for parents—especially mothers—of children battling cancer.
These programs focus on food truck operations, tailoring and sewing, and jewelry-making, helping parents gain financial independence and stability post-treatment. By nurturing new skills, the initiative restores dignity, confidence, and hope while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Target Beneficiaries

Parents—primarily mothers—of children undergoing cancer treatment who have lost or paused their employment to provide full-time care.

Families residing in hospitals or Niru Foundation accommodation centers during treatment, with time available for structured skill training.

Individuals from low-income or vulnerable backgrounds seeking sustainable livelihood opportunities post-treatment to regain financial stability.
Skill Programs Offered
The training includes three key vocational streams—food truck operations, tailoring and sewing, and jewelry and rakhi making. Parents are trained in every aspect of these trades, including menu planning, hygiene management, costing, and licensing for food truck operations; from basic stitching to advanced tailoring techniques in sewing; and from design and production to packaging and finishing in jewelry and rakhi making. Each program is curated to suit varying levels of ability and interest, ensuring inclusivity and long-term utility.
Support System
All training sessions are conducted under the guidance of professional trainers and guest experts. Parents are provided with toolkits, raw materials, and demo setups for hands-on learning. Additional sessions cover marketing, budgeting, and online selling to help participants understand the business side of their skills. Upon completion, participants receive certification and post-training follow-up to assist them in starting or expanding their livelihood activities.
